Soon, You Can Pay Through Google, Facebook and WhatsApp:

US technology giant Google has completed the testing of its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment service and is awaiting RBI approval to roll out its service in the country, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) CEO AP Hota disclosed on Monday.
He also said that Facebook and WhatsApp too are in discussion with NPCI regarding the launch of their UPI payment services in the country. NPCI is the umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India.
"WhatsApp, Facebook and Google are on the way, they are on the job, and the discussions are on. Very soon these three will also get operational,'' Hota told journalists here.
"Quite likely Google would come first, because their testing is more or less complete.. We have written to RBI seeking its approval just two or three days back,'' he said.
As far as WhatsApp is concerned discussions have commenced, it requires a series of discussions. For Facebook, discussions are inpreliminary stage, he added.
While Google is expected to have a separate app with its Android Pay application, Facebook and WhatsApp are expected to integrate with their instant messaging. Speaking at a knowledge session on digital payments in India, Hota said the companies were in discussion with various banks regarding the partnership for roll out after RBI's approval.
Stating that in the UPI each of the banks can have their own application, he said there are fifty banks who are members of UPI and out of them, thirty seven banks have developed their own UPI applications.
Some of the banks instead of applying, have asked their third party service providers to develop the app and make their bank as the acquiring bank. There are 16 such big fin-tech companies including Truecaller, PhonePe and Chiller, he added.
Hota said Google, Facebook and Whatsapp are very big players.. Technically it is feasible, but RBI would have to take a wholistic look. They will have to look whether there are any risks other than the technology thing, he explained.
Expressing disappointment over Indian banks not showing interest towards the opportunity present before them, Hota said, "If our banks bring all their might, there is no need for such players, but our banks do not take interest.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Postpones Official Visit to US Indefinitely:

Thailand’s Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha postponed his visit to the United States, previously scheduled for July 19, because both sides needed more time to consider the framework of discussion, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The visit was postponed indefinitely, but both sides confirmed that the visit would take place, Bangkok Post reported, citing government spokesman and the US embassy in Thailand.
"We look forward to the prime minister's visit to Washington. We continue to work closely with our Thai allies on finding a mutually agreeable date for the prime minister's visit to the White House," the embassy was quoted as saying.
On April 30, US President Donald Trump held phone talks with Prayut, discussed bilateral relations and invited him to visit the United States. On June 27, it was reported that Thailand planned to resume the purchase of weapons and equipment in the US and intended to discuss military and technical cooperation during the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister to Washington.
Military and technical cooperation between the United States and Thailand was reduced and limited by Washington unilaterally after Thailand’s current government came into power following a May 22, 2014 military coup. The administration of Barack Obama maintained cool relations with Thailand, one of the main allies of the United States outside NATO, until the end of his term. New US President Donald Trump took a course to restore a closer relationship with Thailand.
Thai army, aviation and navy use a lot of US equipment, purchased or received as a gift for a long period of friendship and alliance. This equipment needs spare parts, and this issue is planned to be raised during Prayut's visit to the United States.

Tower of Human Skulls Found Beneath Mexico City, New Glimpse Into Aztec Culture

Archaeologists have discovered a tower made of nearly 700 human skulls beneath the heart of Mexico City. The finding unveils new details about the culture of ritual sacrifice among the Aztecs who lived there centuries ago.

The skulls, caked in lime, plus thousands of fragments embedded in the round structure were found near the site of the Templo Mayor, one of the main temples in Tenochtitlan, once the capital of Aztec civilization and now known as Mexico City. The horrid shrine may prove to contain even more remnants; the excavation continues.
The tower is believed to form part of the Huey Tzompantli, a massive array of skulls that struck fear into the hearts of Spanish conquistadores when they invaded the city under Hernan Cortes in the 16th century. The severed heads of defeated warriors adorned tzompantli, or skull racks, found in a number of Mesoamerican cultures before the Spanish conquest.
What surprised the archaeologists is that the skulls forming the structure included those of women and children. This casts doubt on everything historians thought they knew about Aztec traditions.
"We were expecting just men, obviously young men, as warriors would be, and the thing about the women and children is that you'd think they wouldn't be going to war," said Rodrigo Bolanos, a biological anthropologist investigating the find.
"Something is happening that we have no record of, and this is really new, a first in the Huey Tzompantli."
The Aztecs and other Mesoamerican peoples performed ritualistic human sacrifices as offerings to the sun. Huey Tzompantli, about 6 meters in diameter, is positioned near the chapel of Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of the sun and war.
