Free Narendra Modi Laptop Scheme Surfaces Online

Spam messages on messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. is nothing new to us. A couple of weeks back, we had reported about a similar incidence which was a rumor that was spreading about users getting a call from a 9-digit number and their smartphone exploding after that. Well, this new message which is spreading now on WhatsApp is no exception. The new message which is now going viral on WhatsApp is about getting a free Laptop.
Yes, currently, everyone’s WhatsApp inbox is being hit by a spam message which talks something about getting a free laptop via Government program called ‘Laptop Vitran Yojna 2017’ which is basically a program where Government is distributing free laptops. The message which is going viral comes with a link to access this website. Once you tap on the link, you will be directed to a website which has our Prime Minister’s photo on a laptop.

There are three fields which you need to fill out. The website asks for your name, which state you belong from in the country and lastly the preferred brand of Laptop which you would like to get. Once you fill out all these details, you will be redirected to a new page where again you will see two tabs. One reads ‘Invite Friends’ and the other one reads ‘Order Laptop’. As soon as you tap on ‘Order Laptop’ it will ask you to ‘Invite at least 12 groups’ i.e forward the message to at least 12 groups on WhatsApp to proceed.
Now at this point, most people will invite all the friends and try out their luck. And this is where we are suggesting you not to proceed. We all know how these kinds of spam messages work on WhatsApp. This is just to make you spread the message to as many people as you can. Through this, the source of this website is simply looking to get clicks on the advertisement which is displayed on the website.
Do make a note that there is no such program out there and Government is not giving away the free laptops to anyone. If that was the case, then by now we would have seen at least a single advertisement or at least some sort of a campaign. To sum this up, this nothing but a spam message which trying to spread a fake website where no laptops will be given away. Be sure to do proper research on anything before giving away your personal details or sharing it with others. Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this. Did you receive this message and if yes, what did you do? Be sure to let us know by dropping a comment down below and also, stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more updates like this

World's smallest 4G smartphone, Jelly features Android Nougat

From amazing specifications to design, ever brand is now realizing its potential market and developing niche according to it.Samsung has introduced the infinity display, while the next HTC flagship will be squeezable. Amazing advancements are being made but the major bullet points around which a phone is designed are almost the same; a thin casing, narrowest bezels and large displays.
In a world where an over 5-inch smartphone is a standard, a smartphone named Jelly has dared to introduce the world's smallest 4G smartphone. Jelly is not a real smartphone yet but the manufacturers have started a campaign to raise funding which has already resulted in a whopping $180K.
The world's smallest 4G smartphone will have a 2.45 inches display with a screen that has ways less resolution than today's smartphones but still more than what the iPhone 3Gs had when it was introduced a decade ago.
It will be 3.6 inches tall, 1,7 inches wide and half an inch thick and runs on the latest Android Nougat. Jelly has a 1.1 GHz Quad-core processor and dual sim slot as well. The phone will come in two variants, one will have a 1GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage while the Pro version will double these specs.
Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G connectivity. Moreover, rear and front cameras are also present on the world's smallest phones which will cost $69 when released.

Judy malware infects millions of Android devices

The adware was found on 41 applications developed by a Korean company.

A new malware called Judy has infected millions of Android smartphones, reportedNDTV. The adware was found on 41 applications developed by a Korean company called Estudio. It has been removed from the Google store now, reported Mint.
The malware was flagged by security solutions firm Check Point. Researchers said the malware used infected devices to generate revenue by generating fraudulent clicks on ads. They believe the malware has infected 8.5 million to 36.5 million devices.
The bug is called Judy because “Judy the Chef”, an American television personality and chef, was a common factor in the apps affected.
“Some of the apps we discovered resided on Google Play for several years, but all were recently updated,” Check Point team told NDTV. “It is unclear how long the malicious code existed inside the apps, hence the actual spread of the malware remains unknown.”

NASA Plans Test of Radio Waves in Space as Shield Against Solar Storms

NASA said that it has plans to test whether very low frequency transmissions in the upper atmosphere could help protect Earth from solar storms.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A discovery that very low frequency (VLF) radio waves used to communicate with submarines may have unintentionally reshaped the Van Allen belt in deep space has prompted plans to test whether VLF transmissions in the upper atmosphere could help protect Earth from solar storms, according to a press release by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
"Plans are already underway to test VLF transmissions in the upper atmosphere to see if they could remove excess charged particles — which can appear during periods of intense space weather, such as when the sun erupts with giant clouds of particles and energy," the release stated on Wednesday.
The idea originated with a discovery that Van Allen belts, a collection of charged particles held in place by the Earth's magnetic field have moved further from earth since 1960 due to a layer of VLF radio energy that originated from powerful transmitters used to communicate with submarines under water, the release explained.
"A number of experiments and observations have figured out that, under the right conditions, radio communications signals in the VLF frequency range can in fact affect the properties of the high-energy radiation environment around the Earth," the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Haystack Observatory’s Assistant Director Phil Erickson said in the release.
With further study, VLF transmissions may serve as a way to remove excess radiation from the near-Earth environment, the release noted.

Hillary Clinton says FBI chief and Putin cost her election

Hillary Clinton says FBI chief and Putin cost her election.

New York: Hillary Clinton on Tuesday laid the blame for her defeat in last year's White House race squarely at the feet of FBI director James Comey and Russia's Vladimir Putin, saying they had "scared off" voters.
The Democrat, speaking at a charity luncheon in New York, said she took "absolute personal responsibility" for a series of campaign blunders that contributed to her loss to Donald Trump.
But she pointed a finger at Russian hacking and interference and at the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, who revealed just before the November 8 election he was re-opening a probe into Clinton's use of a personal email server while serving as secretary of state.
"I was on the way to winning until a combination of Jim Comey's letter on October 28th and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me, but got scared off," Clinton said.
"If the election had been on October 27, I'd be your president."
Trump responded hours later with a pair of snarky tweets, attacking Clinton and saying the Russia affair was a Democratic ploy to justify her loss to him.
In January the US intelligence community announced it had concluded Russia interfered in the election -- and that Putin himself ordered a campaign to undermine the US democratic process and harm Clinton's electability in order to help Trump win.
Clinton described the Russian president as someone who was "not a member of my fan club."
"He certainly interfered in our election and it was clear he hurt me and helped my opponent," she said.
Clinton pointed to the release of an old video tape on October 7 on which Trump is heard crudely discussing groping women, and how "within an hour or two" of the tapes' release, the Russian theft of Clinton staffers' emails was made public on WikiLeaks.
"What a coincidence. You just can't make this stuff up," she said.
Clinton's remarks -- which echoed CIA comments branding WikiLeaks a "hostile intelligence service" abetted by the likes of Russia -- were the most extensive and direct about her loss since the shock result last year.
"The reason why I believe we lost were the intervening events in the last 10 days," she said.
'Everybody but herself'
Political analysts widely consider that Clinton fell short in part because she failed to mobilize the coalition of non-whites, young voters, single women and college-educated whites who propelled Barack Obama to victory in 2008 and 2012.
She was also faulted for not spending enough campaign time in traditionally Democratic strongholds Michigan and Wisconsin, states which fell to Trump on election day.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that Democrats have focused on Russian hacking -- and alleged cooperation between Moscow and Trump associates -- to mask their bitter defeat.
"Trump/Russia story was an excuse used by the Democrats as justification for losing the election," he tweeted Tuesday night after Clinton spoke. "Perhaps Trump just ran a great campaign?"
Trump also said Clinton had gotten off easy because the FBI chose not to charge her over the email case.
"FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds! The phony..." Trump wrote in another tweet.
In her interview Clinton blamed "everybody but herself," Republican congressman Jeff Duncan said on Twitter.
The 69-year-old former first lady, US senator and secretary of state has spent decades in the public spotlight.
"I'm now back to being an active citizen and part of the resistance," she said, referring to the informal movement opposed to the Republican president.
Clinton is writing a book about her experiences, to be released later this year, and said it has been a "painful process" to relive the campaign and the mistakes she made.
"You'll read my confession and my request for absolution," she said.

Unbelievable: FBI agent wished to marry an ISIS jihadi

New Delhi: How can a person working in a premier investigative agency think of marrying an ISIS terrorists? Well, if reports are to be believed, this is exactly what was happening.
An FBI interpreter Daniela Greene is all set to marry German national Denis Cuspert who was a rapper. After joining ISIS he changed his name to Abu Talha al-Almani. Cuspert's primary work is to attract Germans to ISIS. One of his videos shows him threatening former US president Barack Obama.
To get close to Cuspert she used Skype and then told her FBI employers before flying to Syria. There she even tipped him that he was under investigation. When she returned she realised her mistake and was awarded a two-years imprisonment.
The entire Greene-Cuspert episode was kept a secret to avoid media coverage. Even her friends had no inkling. When she decided her to visit Syria, she told her American husband that she was going to visit her parents in Munich. Instead, she went to Istanbul and contacted Cuspert. But after joining him in Syria, she quickly determined she had made a mistake.

Improvised Explosive Device Found in Macedonian Parliament

An improvised explosive device was found in the parliament of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and defused by police, local media reported.

BELGRADE (Sputnik) – The incident occurred on Tuesday with the head of the parliament’s security service having told the police that a detonator attached to a big gas cylinder for fuelling lighters had been found in the hall on the ground floor, the MKD media outlet reported.
Police reportedly defused the device. The Interior Ministry’s press service has not commented on the reports yet.
Last week, the Macedonian parliament was stormed by protesters after an ethnic Albanian lawmaker Talat Xhaferi was elected a speaker. Several opposition lawmakers were beaten, while others were blocked inside the building. Police had to intervene to free them. According to local media reports, some 109 people were injured in the clashes.

Failed North Korean missile was headed for Russia, Seoul Economy Daily reports, but was detonated

N.Korea, Trump meeting subject to pre-conditions: White House0:40

The White House says North Korea would need to clear many conditions before a meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could be contemplated.
  • May 2nd 2017
  • NORTH Korea’s failed missile was reportedly headed to Russia but was detonated prompting Vladimir Putin to put his country on high alert.
Pyongyang test-fired the ballistic weapon on Saturday despite calls from the US and others to curb its nuclear trials.
Seoul Economy Daily reports that the KN-17 weapon travelled 48 kilometres before officials exploded it after fears it was fired at Russia by accident.
  • “If the ballistic missile that flew to the northeastern region had not failed, it would have been a harbour point or a Russian territory,” the paper claims. “It is for this reason that North Korea intentionally destroyed the missile.”
A source is quoted as saying the launch target was “different from the previous direction” and that “in the past, we fired 89-90 degrees to the east, and the projectile fell off the East Sea. But the angle of this shot was 49 degrees.”
  • Russia’s chairman of defence and security, Victor Ozerov, reportedly said its air defences in its eastern territories had been put on high alert.
“The air defence of the Russian Federation in the Far East has been put on high alert. We control the airspace in the zone of responsibility of the Russian air forces,” he said.
Mr Putin has sent troops to Russia’s border with North Korea amid fears of a rush of refugees trying to flee the country.
CHINA WANTS US, NORTH KOREA TO MAKE CONTACT
It came as China urged the United States and North Korea to make contact “as soon as possible” and ease tensions over the North’s nuclear weapons program.
The call for negotiations from China’s Foreign Ministry came after US President Donald Trump opened the door to a possible future meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.
Mr Trump told Bloomberg News during an interview that he would be honoured to meet with Kim at an unspecified future date “if it would be appropriate.”
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Washington and Pyongyang need to take concrete steps toward peace and avoid further escalating a crisis that has quickly spiralled into a top global security concern.
China has been pushing for the two sides to back down following a string of missile tests by North Korea and a massive live-fire artillery drill last week that was described as its largest ever.
Across the border, South Korea said a US-sponsored missile defence system is now operational — over China’s strong objections.
  • US and South Korean troops conducted joint exercises last month along the North’s border. Against that backdrop, Mr Geng said China has taken note of the more diplomatic messages sent by the Trump administration and considers them constructive.
“Both sides should reach a political resolution as soon as possible,” Mr Geng said. “The most effective way of attaining an improvement is to seek ways to re- establish dialogue and contact.”

Five held for questioning in France after police anti-terrorist operation

In the past two years, France has been hit by a series of Islamist militant attacks in Paris.
French police questioned four men and a woman on Tuesday after an anti-terrorism operation in the northern town of Rouen and two other parts of France, a judiciary source said.
During a search near Rouen, police took away two handguns and two rifles, the source said, though police added that the weapons were legally held.
The police operation was undertaken as part of a preliminary investigation launched in Paris into the possibility that terrorist acts were being planned, the source said.
France has been hit by a series of Islamist militant attacks in Paris and elsewhere in the past two years which have killed more than 230 people. Security has been stepped up across France ahead of the final vote of its presidential election on May 7.

ISI chief visits Afghanistan amid heightened tensions

Media reports said Mukhtar’s trip “was an attempt to stop the blacklisting of Pakistan due to it being an alleged state sponsor of terrorism”.

There was no official word from both countries on the objectives of Mukhtar’s visit(AP)

Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, the head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, travelled to Afghanistan on Tuesday amid tensions between the two countries in an apparent bid to improve bilateral relations.
There was no official word from both countries on the objectives of visit. Pakistan’s parliamentary speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the trip was aimed at improving ties and expanding political and military cooperation.
However, Tolo News channel reported that the international relations committee of the Afghan parliament said Mukhtar’s trip “was an attempt by Islamabad to stop the blacklisting of Pakistan due to it being an alleged state sponsor of terrorism”.
“Pakistan is now in a situation where there is fear that the country will be declared as a state sponsor of terrorism. Therefore, Pakistan is trying to improve its relations with Afghanistan,” said Daud Kalakani, head of the committee for the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of Parliament.
Mukhtar is the first senior Pakistani official to visit Afghanistan following fresh tensions between the two sides. The visit came against the backdrop of reports that the US is set to announce a new war strategy for Afghanistan.
“Relations between Kabul and Islamabad are coming closer following the integration of Mr Hekmatyar with the government of Afghanistan. Today Gen Naveed Mukhtar came to Kabul and met with (National Security Adviser) Massoum Stanekzai and returned to Pakistan after secret talks with (President Ashraf) Ghani,” said political analyst Ahmad Saeedi.
A Pakistani parliamentary delegation recently met Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah and invited him to visit Islamabad. Abdullah’s office said that visit was linked to Pakistan’s cooperation in the war against terrorism.
“Trips, meetings and consultations would strengthen the ties, but the important thing is that the Pakistanis should abide by their commitments and stop backing enemies of Afghanistan,” said Jawed Faisal, Abdullah’s deputy spokesman.
In February, Pakistan announced fresh border restrictions with Afghanistan following a string of deadly attacks on Pakistani cities that Islamabad blamed on insurgents operating from Afghan soil. The border row soured relations between the two sides.

Why are Google and Facebook financing climate skeptics?

Hard to grasp, but true: Google and other large firms are donating large sums of money to the climate skeptic scene. How does that square with an otherwise meticulously managed image as an ecological innovator? For many years, there's been an overwhelming consensus among scientists that human activity is influencing the climate. But there is a group that vehemently challenges this - so-called climate skeptics. Among their claims: Global warming is not definitively caused by humans. Think tanks play a pivotal role in this scene - they present themselves as scientific organizations with unbiased experts.
In reality, however, many are pursuing a clear agenda. In the United States, they have an especially large influence on popular opinion and politics. What's behind it all? Energy companies, car manufacturers and the tobacco industry in particular have a vested interest in portraying climate change as an invention of eco-hysterics.

ExxonMobil, Volkswagen and Monsanto all back of climate-skeptic think tanks, as do billionaire oil magnates the Koch brothers. And although it may seem hard to believe, Google, Facebook and Microsoft are also among the ranks of companies investing in climate denial. Climate protector Google? That fossil fuel, automobile manufacturing and chemical companies may seek to undermine efforts to protect the climate could be seen as acting out of self-interest - so, not surprising.

But why would ostensibly "green" companies like Microsoft, Facebook and Google support climate skeptics? This is the same Google that touts itself as soon being able to cover its own energy needs using only renewables. And, which states on its website that ecological sustainability is an important issue for the company, and that more measures against climate change worldwide are long overdue - yes, that Google. Who exactly Google is sponsoring is easy enough to see on its homepage.

Google backs not only the hyper-conservative Cato Institute, but also the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), which are among the most influential players of the organized climate skeptic scene. At a CEI fundraising event in 2013, Google was even its largest single sponsor, according to the "The Washington Post." The internet firm is also a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, the largest economically orientated lobby group worldwide. It supports mostly Republican politicians who deny climate change, is firmly against emissions trading, and recently praised US President Donald Trump's plan to ease climate protection. A few companies like Apple have already left the Chamber of Commerce in protest over its approach to climate change.

Money is power Daniel Dudis of Public Citizen has a simple explanation as to why Google, despite its carefully-managed reputation as a climate protector, supports the Chamber of Commerce and climate skeptic think tanks: "As a big firm, you give these groups money in order to exert influence through them." With Trump as president, Google through the think tanks now has better access to politicians with decision-making powers. Furthermore, the Cato Institute and the CEI address a relatively wide array of issues. So although Google may perhaps not agree with their views on the climate, it could align with their positions on tax and state regulations. When contacted, Google's only response was to refer to a statement from one of its spokespeople: "We work with dozens of lobby groups from across the whole political spectrum.

We can't always agree 100 percent with every organization on every topic. Regarding ecological sustainability and renewable energy we've shown that are involved long-term with it." The question remains: how can Google pump so much money into think tanks with ostensibly opposite views to its on climate protection, and which try with all their might to undermine it? "All these activities suggest that much of Google's committment is just greenwashing: Public relations to get an environmentally friendly image," said Dudis. In the US political system, money plays a much larger role than in many European countries, meaning companies have a huge influence there on politics.

Google is among them - if need be, even at the cost of the environment.

Open discussion on all accession chapters or goodbye: Turkey warns EU

The ‘chapters’ are the policy areas that are being addressed in the long-running membership talks.

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday warned the European Union that Ankara will walk away from its long-running membership process if new accession chapters are not opened.
"There is no option other than opening chapters that you have not opened until now. If you open, then great. If you don't open, then goodbye," Erdogan said after rejoining Turkey's ruling party in Ankara.
"Turkey is not their (the EU's) doorman," he added. The "chapters" are the policy areas that are being addressed in the long-running membership talks.
"First you have to handle these chapters and fulfil your promises. Then we will sit at the table and talk. Otherwise, we have nothing left to discuss with you," Erdogan said.
Sixteen chapters have been opened out of a total of 35 since accession talks began in October 2005, although Turkey's bid to be a part of the bloc dates back to the 1960s.
The latest chapter was opened in June 2016 on financial and budgetary provisions while one chapter (science and research) has been provisionally closed.
Relations between Turkey and the EU strained further earlier this year after Turkish ministers were blocked from rallying for 'Yes' vote in the April 16 referendum on expanding Erdogan's powers.
The Turkish head of state has often railed against European leaders and threatened to hold a Brexit-like referendum on Turkey's membership talks.
EU President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker want to meet with Erdogan when he travels to Brussels for a NATO summit on May 25.

German MoD Cancels US Trip Amid Alleged Army Plot

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has canceled her trip to the United States amid the ongoing scandal in the army regarding its servicemen's attitude toward refugees, media reported, citing the minister's spokesperson.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, a 28-year-old first lieutenant of the German army, identified as Franco A., was detained in the Bavarian town of Hammelburg on suspicion of preparing a crime allegedly aimed at discrediting refugees. According to media reports, the Bundeswehr had proof of the detainee's far-right views. On Monday, von der Leyen said that the detainee's commanders knew of his far-right views but did not report them due to a misguided sense of camaraderie.
"For the minister, the clarification of the current events around Lt. Franco A. is the priority," the spokesperson said, as quoted by Bild newspaper.
According to the prosecution, Franco A. applied for asylum as a Syrian refugee in the German town of Giessen in late 2015, and was subsequently granted asylum, shelter and benefits in January 2016. According to media, during the registration it was not noticed that the "Syrian refugee" was of German descent and did not speak Arabic but only French. He allegedly planned to commit serious crimes to discredit refugees.
